A Journey in Marketing
A Journey in Marketing will be about how Ryan discovered a problem, found a solution to his problem, and marketed the solution. More specifically, he will talk about how he market’s his WordPress plugin. He’ll talk about how to target people with a specific need or problem through various online networks such as Google search, Adwords, YouTube and Twitter. He’ll share strategies, tips and techniques he used to bring awareness to his WordPress plugin. While Ryan is going to talk about marketing his WordPress plugin, his approaches and tactics can also be applied to most other products.
Presented by Ryan Parent of Vidrack. After taking economics at Carleton University Ryan realized that he wanted to start his own business. He had an interest in photography and decided to start a wedding photography company here in Ottawa. Soon after he discovered that he enjoyed marketing his photography just as much as actually being a photographer. Over the next few years Ryan learned all kinds of ways to market online and after speaking at a marketing meet up he was offered contract work with Marketing What’s New a local marketing agency. After discovering a problem gathering user generated videos he decided to create a WordPress plugin that could help him easily gather user generated videos. He is now working on his first tech startup, vidrack, completely built on WordPress.

A Peek into the World of WordPress Plugin Development
The ability to create a simple plugin shell, which can be used as a site plugin, is a valuable skill to obtain if you need to maintain or create WordPress websites. This session will give you a quick introduction to the construction of WordPress plugins. As we build a simple plugin to add a widget to your sidebars, I’ll summarize the resources needed to help you create your own plugins.
While you will definitely will need to learn PHP, HTML and CSS to create plugins on your own, no coding ability is required for this session. You will be able to create your first plugin by pasting the example code into files on your web site.
Presented by Rick Radko. Rick is the founder of R-Cubed Design Forge, where he develops and designs web sites and applications using open source software. Rick specializes in custom development and multilingual websites.
Meeting Details:
This is a meetup in our “advanced” series. Anyone at any experience level is welcome to attend, but there will be an expectation in the presentations and discussion that attendees have some prior knowledge of, and working experience with WordPress.
