Getting Started With Website Accessibility

Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), websites of companies with more than 50 employees are required to be accessible. Ideally, all websites are accessible, even those for smaller companies, so they can reach the broadest possible audience. Is your website and the content on it accessible to people of all abilities on all devices? Are you meeting your legal requirements for web accessibility and reaching everyone in your customer base?

This presentation will cover what website accessibility means, which organizations are legally required to have an accessible website, and how to identify and fix accessibility issues on your WordPress site. You’ll leave with specific examples that can be fixed on your website right away – even if you don’t know how to code.

Bio:
Amber Hinds is the CEO of Equalize Digital, an accessibility consulting firm and Certified B Corporation striving to create a world where all people have equal access to information and tools on the web, regardless of ability. Amber is a member of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals and has more than a decade of experience in WordPress. Under her direction, Equalize Digital released the Accessibility Checker plugin which scans WordPress sites for accessibility problems and displays results in the admin dashboard.
