Are you brand new to WordPress? Have no clue what the posts and pages are, and everything else in between? We will give you a quick introduction to all things WordPress, so you can get started using it ASAP.

If you want to connect to WiFi, you will need your library card. (unless indicated otherwise above, laptops and connection to the internet are not required during the presentation)

Free parking is available on the neighbouring streets after 5:30pm. Check the signs, a couple of the closest streets are limited to 1hr before 7pm.

The room is in the basement (B125). Enter the main doors, head left, and down the stairs. (Do not enter into the actual library) Turn right at the bottom of the stairs and follow the halls to the room.

WordPress Page Builders

Looking for an easier way to build and customize your WordPress site? WordPress page builders add a drag and drop style interface to WordPress that allows you to more easily create, edit, and customize your page layout. Several of the builders even offer ways to customize theme headers/footers, 404 and search pages, as well as archive pages (blog post listing).

This month we’ll look at a few of the more popular page builders available for WordPress, and demonstrate some of the cool things they can do. Come out and see Cornerstone, Elementor, Divi and Beaver Builder in action.

The Block Editor (aka Gutenberg) – 1 Year Later

One year ago the classic content editor in WordPress was replaced with Gutenberg, now known as the block editor. The block editor introduces a completely new way of creating content in WordPress. Everything is a block!

If you have not been using the new editor for the last year, it’s time to start considering it. Most of the major/popular plugins and themes are now fully Gutenberg compatible. Some plugins and themes are even starting to introduce new features that are only available as blocks. Come out and see what Gutenberg brings to WordPress and why you should consider using it if you are not already.

PLEASE NOTE THE DATE AND VENUE CHANGE!!!
The date for the November Meetup has changed to accommodate room availability. Due to the short lead time since Patty Bolands suddenly closed, we have been unable to find a room on any Wednesday in November, so we’ve moved the November meetup to THURSDAY NOV 14th.

Meetups will return to Wednesdays in December with a review of Gutenberg one year after it’s release, followed by an overview of page builders in January.

There may even be impromptu presentations on topics if requested.

Unfortunately it has just come to our attention that Patty Boland’s Pub https://pattybolands.com/, longtime home to our meetups, has closed it doors for good this past weekend.

We do have meetups planned through the fall, including possible out of town speakers yet to be confirmed. We are currently looking into a new venue for our meetup, and will post an update here as soon as we have news.
