Gutenberg and what it means for your WordPress site
The long promised Gutenberg editor will soon be revolutionizing your WordPress site, like it or not!
Gutenberg is a completely new block based editing interface for WordPress. You can try it out here: https://testgutenberg.com/, here: https://frontenberg.tomjn.com/ and here: https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/. If you are familiar with page builders like Divi, Beaver Builder, or Elementor, it is conceptually similar to them, although not yet as powerful.
Gutenberg is changing WordPress, and is a big part of the future of WordPress. It will have significant impact on page builders, themes and the way you use WordPress. Planning for Gutenberg phase 2 has just gotten underway. The plan is for Gutenberg to handle entire-site layouts. This will include replacing widgets and menus with blocks. When phase 2 is released, Gutenberg will probably be functionally equivalent to most current page builders, and themes will likely have morphed into something new.
Come find out more about Gutenberg, what it means for your WordPress sites, and if you really are not ready for it yet: how to avoid using it.
The release schedule https://make.wordpress.org/core/5-0/ has Gutenberg arriving on Nov 19th with the 5.0 release of WordPress.
