<p><strong>“You Have a Backup, Don’t You?”</strong></p>
<p>Could you recover your WordPress website if it was lost due to a hardware failure?  If it was hacked?  If it was corrupted during an update or plugin install?</p>
<p>Having good backups can make the difference between a 10 minute recovery and complete site rebuild that may take up to a week. This presentation will cover the basics of backups, and look at several options for creating and restoring backups.</p>
<p><span>Presented by Rick Radko, a developer and designer with a passion for finding solutions to difficult design problems.</span></p>

<p>Apart from WordPress running locally, on a shared host, or in VPS, it also runs up in the clouds!  This presentation is an introduction to cloud computing as it relates to WordPress.  Although <strong>this is an advanced topic</strong>, new comers will benefit from the awareness of learning of this new type of technology.</p>

<p><strong>“</strong><strong>How to use Social Media to drive traffic to your WordPress website</strong><strong>” </strong></p>

With the many available self-publishing tools out there, content publishers should not adopt a “Build it and they will come approach.” At the end of this presentation you should have a basic understanding of the most popular social media sites out there right now (it changes a lot with new ones popping up all the time!) and be able to assess which platforms would work best to drive traffic to your website.</p>

<p><strong>“How to WordPress: The basics” – Part 2 of 2</strong></p>
<p>An introduction to creating your own website (or blog) using WordPress. At the end of this series you should have an understanding of how WordPress works and be able to create a basic site.</p>
<p>Each part will be 2 hours:</p>
<p>In part 1 (November 7th) we: learned about what WordPress is and saw who uses it, got acquainted with the WordPress dashboard, discovered the WordPress settings panel, learned about the different content types and how to add content, including images and video.</p>
<p>In part 2 (January 9th) we will: Do a review of part 1, and then see how to add and manage menus and sidebar widgets, checkout more settings and learn how to adjust your site setup, create and manage users,  look at the resources available on wordpress.org, learn how to install and manage plugins.</p>

<p>The classroom is downstairs. Enter the main doors, head left, and down the stairs.  (Do not enter into the actual library)  Turn right at the bottom of the stairs and follow the halls to the room.</p>
<p>We ask for a $4 donation to help cover the cost of the room and our Meetup fees, which total about $450/year  <strong>- Exact Change would be greatly appreciated!</strong></p>

<p><strong>“How to WordPress: The basics” – Part 1 of 2</strong></p>
<p>An introduction to creating your own website (or blog) using WordPress. At the end of this series you should have an understanding of how WordPress works and be able to create a basic site.</p>
<p>Each part will be 2 hours:</p>
<p>In part 1 (November 7th) we will: learn about what WordPress is and see who uses it, get acquainted with the WordPress dashboard, discover the WordPress settings panel, learn about the different content types and how to add content, including images and video.</p>
<p>In part 2 (January 9th) we will: add and manage menus and sidebar widgets, checkout more settings and learn how to adjust your site setup, create and manage users,  look at the resources available on wordpress.org, learn how to install and manage plugins.</p>
<p>Presented by Rick Radko a developer and designer with a passion for finding solutions to difficult design problems.</p>

<p>Have you ever used a theme or a plugin that offers an additional content area outside of the standard Posts or Pages? These are called Custom Post Types, a great feature in WordPress that allows you to break out into specific areas of content that can be used for anything the mind can imagine.</p>
<p>Whether you are learning about theme development and want to add separate content sections of your own or simply new to using WordPress to manage your content, it is to your advantage to know and understand what custom post types are, and what they can do to simplify your publishing or development life.</p>
<p>Presented by Troy Chaplin, a WordPress designer, developer and enthusiast who enjoys pushing the limits of what can be achieved with each new project.</p>
